I teach from the point of view of the Actor. After all, I’ve been an Actor for decades- a WORKING actor! With over 100 professional theatre productions under my belt, at theaters across Canada (including the Stratford Festival, and Soulpepper theatre)and in the States (the Court Theatre in Chicago, and Off Broadway), as well as numerous film and television credits, I have an intimate knowledge of the craft. And as a graduate of the National Theatre School with a Masters Degree in Acting (the first and only one!) from the University of British Columbia, I’ve gained great knowledge to support not just my acting ability, but my teaching. My classroom is a safe and fun non-judgmental container of empathy. My philosophy is centered around joy and play. I challenge my students to story tell at their best- with the deepest of emotional connections. I’m so happy that these values are personified in students of mine. These include some notable alumni like Daniel Diemer and Lina Lecompte and my most recent student, Hudson Williams.
I’ve learned that the art of what we do can serve dual purposes: it can help you understand that at your core you’re good enough and creative enough to work in the industry, as well as confirm that a fully expressed life, is a fully realized life.
