We want to remember that in a self-taping world, you do not want to play the character description you just want to play the moment. Character descriptions are so tricky for people especially on self-tapes. How we perceive things and how people show up in the world are two different things. So do not let character descriptions become reductive. They’re just guide posts, suggestions of how to think about ways to be imaginative, but they can’t be played.
Life and the moment changes you. You don’t play an agenda that supersedes the moment. You can read the description to understand what’s going on thematically, but you can’t really play it. Any opportunity to crush the acting impulse, do it. Don’t’ do anything that can further create that superficiality. Everything is designed to get us more honest, get us more free, get us more real, get us more telling the truth.
